BUTTERCUP

April 23rd, 2020

Meet Buttercup the mare: this old gal was experiencing a host of health issues including weight loss, difficulty eating, and a mass near her left eye. It can be a challenge to care for aging horses, but Laurel’s House stepped right up to make sure Buttercup gets the care she needs to have a comfortable and happy retirement. Dr. Gatz performed the dental work Buttercup needed to be able to eat more comfortably, is diagnosing and treating the mass near her eye, and made sure anything Buttercup needs to be comfortable, she gets! A heartfelt thank you to Swissvet Veterinary Products and Miller & O’Connor Veterinary Medicine, PLLC for lending the necessary dental equipment, Merck Animal Health Equine and the American Association of Equine Practitioners for providing vaccines, and to all our donors who make this care possible. If you would like to help us care for horses in our community, please donate today!

UNWANTED HORSE VETERINARY RELIEF CAMPAIGN

April 5th, 2020
Tee is a 21-year-old gelding who has served as a therapy horse at a youth camp. In recent months, the camp was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and Tee found himself homeless and unemployed. Dr. Erin Gatz, Laurel’s House’s Equine Program Director immediately stepped up to help Tee, providing essential veterinary care including his core vaccinations and annual examination. Our ability to help horses like Tee is made possible with generous assistance from the Unwanted Horse Veterinary Relief Campaign sponsored by Merck and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. Don’t worry, this handsome guy has also found a beautiful facility to spend the rest of his days. Here’s wishing Tee a happy and healthy retirement!

VETERINARY SAFETY NET PROGRAM

April 4th, 2020

While the Coronavirus pandemic has caused Laurel’s House to suspend our mobile spay/neuter services, we are continuing to help our community in different capacities. Laurel’s House veterinarians are working with local private veterinary practices, local animal welfare agencies, and individual owners to identify pets at risk for surrender, euthanasia, or leaving urgent conditions untreated due to lack of access to veterinary care. We are assisting such pets by providing the care they need at no cost in order to keep families together and healthy during this trying time. Laurel’s House is seeing urgent cases only, and following all social distancing and disinfection protocols recommended by the Centers for Disease Control. To request an appointment to have your pet’s urgent condition evaluated and treated by a Laurel’s House veterinarian, please email info@laurelshouse.org or call (281) 653-6176.

OLIVER THE PIG

March 11th, 2020

When Laurel’s House heard that Oliver the pot-bellied pig’s family was having a difficult time accessing veterinary care for him, we sprang into action. Dr. Gatz and Kym took excellent care of Oliver this week, providing him with the castration surgery and vaccines he needs to have a healthy and happy life. Donate today to help us make our community a safe haven for ALL.
