Is this a free service?

Yes, it is a no charge service provided Laurels House by generous donors. Donations are accepted to continue or mission. This is NOT funded by the government, all our donations come from private donors.

What do I need to do to get spay/neuter appointment?

Fill out the spay/neuter appointment request form and wait for a call back from a team member.

How long do it take?

This is an outpatient service, which means all pets go home same day. Process takes approximately 2-3 hours.

How much does it cost?

There is no cost to the customer but we do take donations to continue this service.

What is spay/neuter?

A surgical procedures performed in order to prevent pets from reproducing. Both procedures are also sometimes referred to as “sterilizing,” “desexing,” “altering,” or “fixing” an animal. The technical term for spaying is ovariohysterectomy. Spay surgery on a FEMALE cat or dog involves the removal of both ovaries. Neuter or castration is for MALE animals that refers to removing testes

What age does my pet need to be to get spay/neuter?

We recommend at least 8 weeks or older. Cats must be 3 pounds or heavier and dogs are required to be 5 pounds or more. In addition to age the pet must be healthy enough to undergo anesthesia which an exam is preformed same day of drop off.

Where do I go to get spay/neuter for my cat/dog?

Our surgical suite is a mobile suite. It is typically located at 3830 Greenhouse Rd, Houston, TX 77084 unless we have an event scheduled elsewhere.

What to do prior to appointment?

No food or water after 10p prior to surgery date. Please inform us if animal eats or drinks as it causes problems anesthetic medications can cause nausea and or vomiting.

Do you spay/neuter other pet besides dogs and cats?

Yes. Animals like rabbits and guinea pigs can get spay/neuter services however it will be done for a small fee at Safe Haven Animal Hospital.

Do I need vaccines prior to appointment?

No. If your pet is not vaccinated we will provide free of charge.

What’s included with this service?

In addition to spay/neuter service you will get up to date on vaccines and a microchip.

Can I get just the vaccines and microchip?

No. This service requires spay/neuter. Vaccines and micro chip can be purchased with a visit to Safe Haven Animal Hospital, our full service clinic. Safe Haven is a walk in clinic only, open Sunday – Wednesday 10a-2p.

What else does Laurel’s House offer?

No at this moment we are not offering other services, all other surgeries or services are from Safe Haven Animal Hospital.

Do you offer this service to wild/feral animals?

No. We offer this for family pets and if we deem the animal a bite risk we can deny the service.

How do I request this service for a rescue group event?

Email us at info@laurelshouse.org to discuss further details for large groups and organizations.

Who do I call to get an appointment?

At this moment there is no one to call. All persons requesting this service MUST fill out the appointment request form?

What happens after surgery?

Please follow all discharge instructions. Also purchase an e-collar usually between $14-$25 and can be purchased at any pet supply store.

What do I do when I notice a problem after surgery?

Please call Laurel’s House at 281-653-6176. Texting a photo of the area of concern to that number is helpful as well.

What time is check-in?

Check in is between 7:30-8:30am

What happens if I miss check-in?

Your appointment could be cancelled and you will have to fill out the form again to get back on schedule.

What time is pick up?

Pick up times vary. You will receive a phone call or text informing you your pet is ready for pick up. You will have an hour from that phone call/text to pick up patient.

What happens if I miss my pick up time?

Owner could be subject to a boarding fee of $50/day.

What time do you close?

We don’t have a close time. We operate on our appointment schedule. All patients must be picked up by 3p.
